Jenerali Ulimwengu is an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania, a renowned journalist and writer who currently serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Raia Mwema Newspaper. He stands as a vocal critic of the monoparty system and has played a key role espousing democratic ideals in the continent as one of Africa’s most revered intellectuals. He is a Pan Africanist who served for many years on the Pan African Youth Forum through which he was involved in numerous peace negotiations, mobilization against apartheid and the liberation movement in Africa. In Tanzania, after a stint in public service including as a member of parliament in the 1990s, he has participated in founding and supporting numerous civil society outfits dedicated to the promotion of democracy, civil liberties and social justice.
