Prof. Yash is a distinguished Kenyan constitutionalist who has spent most of his life teaching in universities across Europe, Africa, and Asia while also advising war-stricken and post-colonial countries on “how to use the law to build democratic societies”. Additionally, Ghai has been head of the United Nations’ Constitution Advisory Support Unit in Nepal, 2007; United Nations’ special representative for human rights in Cambodia, 2005; and chairman of the Kenyan Constitution Review Commission from 1999 to 2004. Also, he advises and assists NGOs in human rights, law-related work. Ghai’s current goal is to assist countries, especially in Africa, in their pursuit of democracy and justice. He is currently based in Kenya and works on using the constitution to bring about change and defend the rule of law through the organization, Katiba Institute.
